10 Popular 90s Breakfast Foods You Will Want To Eat

There’s nothing quite like 90s breakfast foods. Sure, things like pancakes, eggs, and toast were around in the 90s, but those weren’t commonly eaten on busy school mornings.

The 90s saw the rise of many quick and easy breakfast foods for kids, like granola bars and breakfast cereals. Most of these were tasty and required little if any preparation. Here are my top ten 90s breakfast foods every kid wanted to eat!

1. Pop Tarts

90s Breakfast Foods Strawberry Pop-Tarts

Great warm or cold, Pop Tarts has been a popular breakfast food for busy mornings for a long time. The most common breakfast flavors of the 90s were Frosted Strawberry and Frosted Blueberry. Although, my personal favorite was Wildberry.

The Wild flavors were amazing!

2. Toaster Strudel

90s breafast foods-Strawberry Toaster Strudel

Toaster Strudel is one of the most fun and easy-to-prepare 90s breakfast foods for kids. Flaky pastries that a kid could heat up in the toaster themselves and top with icing. What could be better?

I specifically remember strawberry being the most popular option, along with those fun commercials of kids making designs with the icing. Did anyone else successfully draw anything with their icing packet? All I could draw was a heart that quickly melted into a gooey icing glob.

These days, the cinnamon variety is my favorite!

3. Oreo Os

90s Breakfast Foods-Oreo Os

Oreo Os combined two great childhood foods, Oreo cookies and breakfast cereal. It kinda tasted like Oreos and milk too, making the milk slightly chocolaty!

These were awesome when I was a kid, but then they disappeared off store shelves for years. Recently, I have seen Oreo Os for sale again, but I haven’t tried them to see if they are as good as I remember.

4. Dinosaur Egg Oatmeal

90s Breakfast Foods Quaker Dinosaur Eggs Oatmeal

Quaker’s Dinosaur Egg Oatmeal was one of my favorite breakfast options growing up. I liked instant oatmeal anyway, but the dinosaur eggs take it to a whole new level of amazingness!

Dinosaur egg oatmeal consists of Maple & Brown Sugar instant oatmeal and these sugary little eggs. When you add water and cook it, the eggs melt to reveal tiny candy dinosaurs of various shapes and colors. If that isn’t the coolest breakfast ever, I’m not sure what is!

5. French Toast Crunch

French Toast Crunch cereal is a favorite of 90s kids everywhere. This beloved cereal is a delicious combination of French toast flavor and tiny cereal squares, making it the perfect quick breakfast treat.

6. Eggo Waffles

90s breakfast foods eggo waffles

Eggo Waffles were the quintessential breakfast food of the 90s – and they’re still as delicious today as they were back then. These classic homestyle waffles are a great start to the day no matter how you prefer them, plain or topped with syrup or sliced fruit.

7. Trix Yogurt

90s breafast foods trix yogurt

Trix Yogurt is a colorful yogurt for kids that comes in a variety of flavors. 90s kids loved the bright colors and flavors, which were always advertised using the Trix Rabbit with his swirly vortex thing.

Trix Yogurt is still around, although not quite as popular as it used to be. Recently, they did a product revamp to include new flavors and make the product better. Hopefully, it still comes in the swirly colorful cups!

The current flavors of Trix Yogurt are:

  • Strawberry-banana bash
  • Raspberry rainbow
  • Triple cherry
  • Rainbow punch
  • Berry
  • Strawberry
  • Banana bash

8. NutriGrain Bars

90s breakfast foods nutrigrain bars

NutriGrain bars were pretty much a staple among 90s breakfast foods for hectic mornings and have been around for decades. I remember strawberry being the most popular flavor back then, easily found in vending machines or school lunch rooms if you forgot to pack your own.

Made with whole grains and real fruit, these delicious bars provide a perfect balance of nutrition and taste. Not only do they make for an easy and convenient breakfast option, but they are also fortified with vitamins and minerals.

9. Kudos Bars

90s breakfast foods kudos bars

Kudos bars were a great snack or breakfast food most 90s kids will have fond memories of. These chocolate-covered granola bars were a favorite among kids and adults alike and were basically like having a combination of a granola bar and a candy bar for breakfast.

The original flavors included fudge, peanut butter, and chocolate chip. In 2011, Kudos did a revamp where they added more peanuts and released Kudos bars popular Mars flavors, such as Dove, Snickers bar, and M&Ms.

Unfortunately, Kudos bars were discontinued in 2019. However, this may not be the end for Kudos. Fans have started petitions and social media pages begging for the nostalgic treat to make a comeback. Maybe someone will hear us yet!

10. Reeses Puffs Cereal

90s breakfast foods Reeses Puffs

Reeses Puffs cereal was a cool 90s breakfast. Their classic peanut butter and chocolate flavor combination wasn’t the only thing that made them stand out. Reese’s also had very kid-friendly commercials in the 90s and early 2000s that featured some uniquely bopping music.

For everyone looking to relive their childhood and enjoy a bowl of nostalgia, Reeses Puffs are still widely available at grocery stores and supermarkets, like your local Walmart. They haven’t changed much either!

Where You Can Buy These 90s Breakfast Foods

Most of these breakfast foods from the 90s can still be purchased from places like Walmart or Amazon. French Toast Crunch and Oreo O’s even come back to store shelves from time to time.

The only one that we haven’t been able to get our hands on for a long time is Kudos Bars. One day, maybe we can have candy bar-like granola bars again. Until then, you can always make your own copycat version with crisp rice, peanuts, chocolate, and whatever else you want to throw in the mix.
